Ancient Gemstones – Aventurine

Product ImageAventurine is a form of quartz, characterised by its translucency and the presence of platy mineral inclusions that give a shimmering or glistening effect termed aventurescence. The most common colour of aventurine is green, but it may also be orange, brown, yellow, blue, or gray.

Ancient Tibetans decorated their statues with Aventurine, using it most often for the eyes to symbolically increase the statue’s visionary powers. Nowadays it is used to aid nearsightedness.

Until the nineteenth century, Aventurine was called the “stone of the Amazons,” because the Brazilian deposits were believed to have supplied jewels and talismans for the Amazonian warriors. (more…)

Blue Goldstone Necklace, Br... Product ImageThis gorgeous gemstone might not be so ancient but it surely has a nice story and it’s worth our attention just like the other gemstones. Goldstone is a man made stone which has been around since the European Rennaissance, a type of glittering glass made in a low-oxygen reducing atmosphere. The story behind the origin of the goldstone is not certain and more folklore stories exist. One of them states that goldstone was created by alchemists. One of the many problems that alchemists tried to solve was how to turn iron into gold. Goldstone is thought to be the result of one of these attempts. (more…)

Ancient Gemstones – Amazonite

Multicoloured Amazonite Nec... Product Image Amazonite is named after the Amazon River in Brazil and the lush jungle region surrounding it where the original “green stones” were discovered. Whether these stones were what we know today as Amazonite is uncertain, as deposits are not currently found in the basin area of this great river. Amazonite sparkles in captivating shades of turquoise-green, promising to soothe the spirit and calm the soul.

Called the “Stone of Courage” and the “Stone of Truth,” Amazonite is said to empower one to search the self and discover one’s own truths and integrity, and to move beyond fear of judgment or confrontation with others to live in alignment with those beliefs and values. (more…)
